Gangs of Wasseypur 2 review.

This film has indeed come as a sigh of relief for the audience who are fed up with recent series of bollywood films full of melodramatic drama, mindless comedy watching which one even wonders whether is it actually worth spending two and half hours of time in the multiplexes for the sake of entertainment? This film is indeed a treat for that audience who actually seek and appreciate certain truthfulness, reality and substantial content in the cinema. It a general notion that a typical realistic film necessarily can never be an entertaining film and one has to mentally prepare oneself as if watching it is going to be huge test of patience and energy soaking experience. Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is a wonderful example of a realistic cinema which can even equally be entertaining, absorbing and humorous.

The film looks direct, straight into the things from the very start without any pretentions and maintains that tempo throughout. The camera work and back ground music takes the film and the performance of the actors to another level. Above all Anurag Kashyap’s direction looks to never loose any control and keeps audience guessing all the time and at their toes throughout the film.

The film starts with the killing of Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajapai) in the day light. Sardar Khan has three sons, Danish(Vineet Singh), Faizal Khan(Nawazuddin Siddiqui), Perpendicular/ Babua (Aditya Kumar) from the first wife, Nagma Khatoon (Richa Chadda) and one i.e, Definite Khan(Zeishan Quadri ) from the other lady, Durga(Zeishan Quadri).Soon after Sardar Khan is killed, the bloody vendetta between his family and his killer Ramadhir Singh(Tigmanshu Dhulia), a scheming politician, gallops the entire Wasseypur. After his elder brother Danish is also killed, the main protagonist Faizal khan takes the charge of his father’s legacy and creates his brand of terror in the town. Nobody in his family thought that Faizal, a person with a seemingly thin body frame who always lived drowned in his own world of imaginations and smoking could ever achieve this in a very short span of time. Faizal finally takes his bloody revenge from Ramadhir Singh but himself also is double crossed and shot dead by his step brother Definite Khan.

The outstanding performance of actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been a revelation in this film. He seemed to have hit the right node every time the character needed him to do so. Putting aside everything else for a moment, his performance alone could easily be the sole reason to watch this film. Huma Qureshi as Mohsina, the supportive wife of Faizal Khan equally carries her character successfully on to her shoulder throughout the film. Sneha Khanwalkar’s music also scores high points and complements the film well. The direction of Anurag makes the audience hold their breath at so many times and watch the bloodshed with their eyes wide open in surprise. All these hard hitting scenes of bloodshed, gang war, sudden killings have been successfully complemented with many a humorous events such as the brass-band paying homage at funerals through gloomy Bollywood numbers, crazy ringtones often defining characters. It is only at last fifteen minutes or so one gets a feel as if the film is slightly prolonged and gets dragged but only by a little bit. Otherwise the entire film has an engrossing narrative backed up by a rich collection of colourful and interesting characters with various shades, enacted brilliantly by the respective actors. Composer Sneha Khanwalkar's , ' Kaala Re.. ' is one of the big positives for the film. Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is worth a watch for its brilliant depiction of realistic lives, violent incidents in some what a beautiful poetic way. This film is certainly going to create many a ripples in the Indian film industry for a long time to come, something with which Anurag Kashyap can easily be associated with.
