The recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Modi and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been seen as very important event which may give another boost to social media in India.
Zuckerberg is the third richest American in the technology industry and his wealth is estimated around &34 billion. He is presently on his second ever trip to India. "Connectivity cannot be the privilege of the rich," Zuckerberg while addressing people in India said. He further added, "Culturally this is the country that is very forward leading in science, engineering and research that make the benefits of connectivity here very profound for all". Modi himself has got a massive social media followers with nearly 7 million followers on Twitter and around 23 million on Facebook.
In the meeting, Modi has asked Zuckerberg to explore new initiatives in future so that Indian Government and Facebook can work together in the field of health care, tourism and education. It is learnt that Facebook CEO will be helping in creation of a exclusive mobile App for Clean India initiative (Swachh Bharat Mission) taken by Modi Government.
